The Colosseum, Rome — Hand-Illustrated Italy Art Print

The Colosseum at night is a different monument than the one you see in daylight. This hand-illustrated print captures it in near-dark — warm stone against a deep teal sky, a crescent moon hanging at the upper right, a single traveler drifting through the frame overhead. Nearly two thousand years of history, very still.

Printed as a genuine giclée on 270 GSM FSC-certified heavyweight cover stock with fade-resistant pigment inks. Available in 8x10 and 11x14, unframed and ready for your favorite frame.

The Stop at the End of the Day

We went back to the Colosseum at dusk, after the tour groups had thinned out. The stone turns a different color as the light drops — warmer, more amber — and the moon comes up early enough to compete with the last of the sun. We stood longer than we meant to.

This illustration starts from a photo taken in that hour. The teal sky, the warm stone, the crescent moon, the solitary traveler overhead — all drawn by hand in our Fort Worth studio.
About the Illustration
The Colosseum, or Flavian Amphitheatre, was completed in 80 AD and is the largest ancient amphitheatre ever built. It could hold between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators and hosted gladiatorial contests, animal hunts, and public spectacles for centuries.

The illustration captures the Colosseum from a low angle, the massive curved facade filling the frame from left to right, with the teal night sky and crescent moon above. The warm cream tones of the ancient stone anchor the cool palette of the sky.
Italy Wall Art for Any Space
This print works in a home office, living room, dining room, or as part of a travel gallery wall. It pairs naturally with other city prints in the Hand-Illustrated Stopovers series — Chicago, Paris, Tokyo, Seattle, and New York are all available separately.

The deep teal and warm cream palette is calm and sophisticated. A simple black, gold, or natural wood frame works beautifully.
