Description

Sunset in Oia, Santorini: Hand-Illustrated City Art Print

Every evening in Oia builds toward the same twenty minutes, when the sun drops behind Thirasia and the whole village turns gold — and packs onto the path to the windmills to watch it. This hand-illustrated print imagines the same lane without the crowds. An old windmill catches the last light and bougainvillea spills over whitewashed walls. If you've stood in this spot yourself, you know exactly how crowded it gets. We left all of that out of the drawing.

Printed as a genuine giclée with fade-resistant pigment inks on Crane's Lettra®, a 110 lb cover, 100% cotton paper in Fluorescent White. Available in 8x10 and 11x14, unframed and ready for your favorite frame.

The Last Light Over the Caldera

Oia is famous for its sunsets, and just as famous for the crowd that shows up to watch one. Every evening the lane out to the windmills fills in shoulder to shoulder, everyone angling for the same view before the light goes.

We stayed in a house right behind the windmill in this photo, just off the page, close enough to walk out for sunset every evening of the trip. As usual, you can find our family travelers tucked into this print, just like every Stopover scene.
About the Illustration
Oia sits on the northern tip of Santorini, built into the rim of the volcanic caldera left behind by one of the largest eruptions in recorded history. Its whitewashed cave houses and blue-domed churches have made it one of the most photographed villages in Greece, and the walk out to the old windmills near the castle at sunset is the reason most visitors come.

The illustration is drawn from a narrow lane leading toward the water, with the windmill's timber sails silhouetted against a sky moving from blue to gold. Bougainvillea, a blue door, and the sea beyond the rooftops all appear in the drawing, along with a couple of birds tucked into the scene.
Santorini Wall Art for Any Space
This print works in an entryway, a living room, or as part of a travel gallery wall next to the other cities in the Hand-Illustrated Stopovers series — Rome, Paris, Tokyo, Chicago, Seattle, and New York are all available separately.

The sunset palette of blue, gold, and magenta bougainvillea is warm without being loud. A simple black or natural wood frame lets the colors do the work.
A Gift for Santorini Lovers

This art print makes a thoughtful gift for anyone with a soft spot for Santorini — someone planning their first trip, someone still thinking about their last one, or a friend who always says Oia is the most beautiful place they've been. It's a popular choice for anniversaries, honeymoons, and housewarming gifts.
