The First Car We Found

We ran across this one on our first scouting trip to Ocean Drive, right after we landed. There are classic cars parked in front of the hotels along the drive, and this mint-green Buick was the one that stopped us.

As usual, you can find our family travelers tucked into this print, just like every Stopover scene.
About the Illustration
Classic cars are part of the scenery on Ocean Drive. Owners park them at the curb in front of the Art Deco hotels, where they sit against the pastel facades and catch the eye of everyone walking past. This one is a mint-green Buick, chrome grille and all, nosed up to the yellow curb.

The scene is drawn in the morning, before the drive fills up. The café umbrellas are open over empty tables, the sky is flat and bright, and the palms run north in a line toward the far end of the street. Two birds are hidden in this one: a common crane flying over the palms at the upper right, and a barn swallow perched on the corner of the café's wooden host stand, just to the left of the car's windshield.
